History of Our Post

West Park Gilbert O’Neil Post 2533 was organized on June 2, 1932 by a group of forty Veterans in the West Park area.   In 1933 the Ladies Auxiliary was formed.   The name was chosen in honor of a soldier from the community who was an early casualty in World War I.   The first Post meetings were held in the former West Park Town Hall.  From 1933 until 1949 the Post met at their own quarters at West 135th Street and Lorain Avenue.   Our present Post home, on West 150th Street, was built in 1949.   The mortgage was burned in the spring of 1953.   West Park Gilbert O’Neil Post 2533, in its 78th year, will stand in the future as it has in the past, as a real asset to the Veterans of Foreign Wars organization and to the West Park area of Cleveland.  Our Perpetual Post Charter No. 1273 was awarded on December 2, 1969.
